Rifle case dimensions

Hello,

What are the outside dimensions of the CMP hard case included with the M1 Garand? Are the bolt action rifle cases the same size, or different?

The older style in a cardboard sleeve was 54" x 12" x 5"
that is the one with a top and bottom egg-crate foam in it.

The newer black case is about 50 x 13.5 x 4.5

I think the black case is only made to fit the Garand

was that in or out of a cardboard shipping sleeve?

CMP hasn't used the foam lined cardboard boxes in years.
I don't think the black Garand-only cases are currently in use.
CMP has used several hard cases over the past 2-3 years alone, as well as the Garand-only cases. They are all about the same size, but if you are looking for exact dimensions for the cardboard case they ship in I suggest either measuring whatever case you plan to ship or contact CMP directly.
I have tan cases, green cases and black cases from CMP from just the past few years; each is slightly different. I don't have the Garand-only case, and I think the last case I got was 2019 or so.
All will fit a service rifle and most other rifles so I never paid attention to the minor differences.

Just for point of reference the black Garand-only cases are still around, I bought a Garand at the SS on Saturday and got one with my rifle.

They have a black case that is the same size and looks the same from the outside that has foam in it and is used to ship any rifle that is not a garand.

The custom shop shipped my rifle in my green case and the cardboard box was marked 14x4.5x54. Approximate dimensions of the green CMP case are 12.5 (at the handle) x4.5x53. I don't have the black case and the tan is in storage.
