Default Walnut stocks waiting on receivers.

Just finished up 4 walnut stocks in preparation for the arrival of 4 USGI heeled receivers from James River Armory. Stock on the right is from CMP when they were available. Came out pretty darn nice.
Looking forward to these builds in the near future.

Looks great Mr. Art! Can you please tell me what 'USGI heeled receivers' are?

High on my 'next build' list is an M14, and I want an as-close-humanly-possible USGI clone. The biggest thing that keeps me from buying one is the heel stamp not being from a gov't builder. By my understanding I can fairly easily swap out a lot of commercial parts for USGI, but the receiver will be the missing piece.

Again, those stocks looks great, and thanks for the help.

Very simply, James River Armory has a process where they take a new production Bula Defense Systems receiver and snip the heel off just aft of the rear sight pocket, then weld a USGI heel to the donor receiver. There is no auto lug or connect.or dismount notch in the op rod track so they are atf approved from my understanding.
I have one of their first version with a Winchester heel. I have recently sent James River 4 receiver heels, one form each USGI M-14 mfg for them to do their work on.
In my opinion, this is the most authentic appearing way to put together a reasonable reproduction of our M-14 rifles.

This is the Winchester I did a couple of years ago to simulate the Winchester M-14 I was issued in Viet Nam in the 60s. The majority of the parts are Winchester including barrel, bolt, trg gp and stock. All other parts are USGI.

Awesome, thanks Art.

So by my understanding I need to procure my own demilled M14 receiver, and then get a hold of james river armory, purchase one of their receivers and have the work done?

You surely have some beautiful rifles.

That is what I have done.
They may be able to supply the heels too, I am not sure.
Give them a call.

Negative, just an M-14 enthusiast that enjoys using quality products such as LRB or Bula Defense in my builds.

I never understood why some people here are so snarky, but I personally enjoy it when I get to see the collections that people show off.

How did you finish the stocks? The finish looks a little flatter than what I get with oils.

I have used nothing but BLO and an occasional dressing with Butcher's bowling alley wax. It has worked for me for over 50 years so I think I might as well stick with it.
