Default Greetings from California

Hi y'all. Totally new to M1 rifles but not to firearms, plenty of friends in the safe for my new field grade to hang with. Got it sitting by my 1884 model Trapdoor on the one side and M38 Carcano on the other. They'll have a lot to talk about I'm sure. 😊

And on our first outing with it my 25 year old son got one helluva case of Garand thumb! Bit him and good the first time he tried to load it. Yikes.

I don't see Garands much in my neck of the woods. Only one guy I know personally has one and he never shoots it. Rarely see them at the local range. ARs are everywhere now, despite the states efforts to exterminate them.

My field grade arrived at my door surprisingly fast after placing the order. Op rod spring was in seven pieces, but the CMP zipped out a replacement. Hackberry stock that's been so discussed here stained brown, I rather like it and plan to try refinishing it. Lovely old time rifle, machined steel, well fit together, I can see now why people get hooked on them.

Welcome to both the Garand world and the forum...sometimes synonymous!
Garand thumb is indeed a rapid self-critiquing and self-teaching moment.

As others will state, look forward to pics, especially with your results on the hackberry stock.

Again, congrats and welcome,
Rob

Welcome Mcheath,
I also come from a state that doesn't much trust their citizens with fire arms. Let's hope we can get the right people elected next time around. Good luck with your M1. Please post some pictures of it along with your trapdoor. Eddie
