There are a bunch of WWI examples out there in the surplus market which probably would have been issued during WWII. For instance:
click here for Numrich and scroll down. I remember buying some like these at gun shows in the '70s.



Very general rule-of-thumb: WWI pouches have 2 snaps (one over each pocket), WWII pouches have one snap in the center.
