Irons or optics?
If Irons...…… what rear sight did they use? What configuration were they using?
What did they say when you asked them about the question/s you posted here?
There were six of us there. I shot next to a M1 Garand shooter and one other fellow who had an AR15 A2 just like mine, iron sights, old school. We kept our own scores.

Point is the rules are in error.

I just read the rules after the match. ...after seeing guys shooting Service Rifle with optics. Guy next to me says that's legal now.

Ok...… great so an AR15A2 is allowed.
And the rest? What were the others shooting?

Yes... optics are allowed. And so is a set up for the optics to be used effectively.

What were the others shooting?
Did you ask them about all the new (to you) changes and what did they say?

All I saw was an M1 and another A2.

What does that have to do with the rules?

Are you saying it's what I can get away with at the match as long as that's what everyone else is doing?

No, I'm saying AR15A2's are legal for competition in Service Rifle.
Take care ……. Good luck at Perry!

I understand that now. The rules are flawed and a simple correction would rectify that.

Great!
So you have a legal rifle for SR…..
Keep shooting those local matches so you are comfortable with all the updates.
ASK QUESTIONS! I can't imagine anyone not helping you with your questions at the matches.

Take Care...…. Good Luck at Perry!

Roger that. My A2 has an original Kreiger Milazzo installed by Charlie Milazzo himself. This was back when they were still available to civis. I understand that they are now back and available.
