Generally, the oiler won't allow the sling room to come through until the oiler is pushed toward the left which seems to give the oiler more room to move around. It seems odd but they do work well that way.

I have had several USGI stocks that would handle any super thick after market sling, and have seen several nice after market stocks that took everything I could do to install a worn thin sling.

I have some success by removing the cap and screwing it in while the oiler is at an angle.
