Default Anyone ever laser engraved a stock?

Thinking about taking one of my CMP stocks and laser engraving it with my dad's info and putting it one an M1 Garand for him. I am not a veteran but raised as an Army brat so I know ranks and so forth. He is a retired Command Sergeant Major, 2X Vietnam vet. I know I want his name, rank, CSM stripes, combat infrantrymans badge. What else should I put on it. Plan to do both sides. Ideas on layout? Already have a guy that can do it.

just have him sign it, then a clear coat and you'll have his signature forever. look at the signature on the forearm.

Still plan to Laser it, but what a great idea. Will have him sign it when I give it to him.

Yes I have a laser and have engraved a walnut stock.

It was new (CMP wood). It turned out excellent.

The walnut did not "burn" or turn a lot darker like I had expected. The contrast was dark enough that it was very nice.

I would recommend you finish it the way you want it to turn out (BLO etc.) and then have it engraved. I have done other wood engraving and most of the time finishing after the engraving negates the color contrast. The engraving will still be there of coarse, but the color difference changes the look some.

These new lasers you can engrave just about any design and logo very easy.

The one I did was for a friend, to commemorate the loss of a good friend. I engraved a motto, the friends initials and commemorative dates.

Still trying to decide what all to put on the stock I want to engrave. Dad had this marker made for his grave when Mom passed away. Anyone know what the insignia on the left is for?
