Default New 1903

I just picked this up today and I think it may be a USMC rifle but not sure. It looks to be still sporting it's original barrel SA 12-10. Since the bolt is marked different than the receiver I assume it was on another rifle at some point. What do you think? How odd is it to have a barrel that old. This is my first 1903 so any input is welcome.

Remove the action from the stock and see if there are vise marks on the barrel.
USMC 03's had the vise marks. The bolt s-n does not match the receiver but may be from another USMC 03.

No marks on it. Just some stamps 030, small 3, small P, small B. Were they all re-barreled by the Marine Corps?

Your rifle looks like a bunch of photobucket advertisements.

If the barrel was changed, this looks to be sporting the original barrel. Looks like a USMC rifle to me: stippled butt plate, ugly parkerizing, mismatched bolt, Hatcher hole, etc.

Thanks for the feedback guys. After I read the previous post about what makes a USMC rifle I figured this one was a good candidate. When I went to go look at it I had no idea what it might be, just that it was a 1903 at a good price. The person I got it from blew off my request for additional pictures so the only feature I could see before the hour long drive was the EP bolt. I'm glad I made the drive now.

You do indeed have a USMC rifle!

Congratulations! And thanks for re-posting the photos!
