Agreed, but if the stamp was light it is plausible. Clearly looks to me the barrel was turned on a lathe between the front and rear of the gas cylinder ring.
I have seen this before on an IHC with a LMR barrel just can't remember the how or why

Many of the barrels have them. Those that don't may have been finish ground by the MFG before being treated. M1 Carbine barrels also have them. In a way, they are good to have. Should provide a little extra cooling to the end of the barrel.

Have similar rings on a 1-55 SA barrel and was told they are tooling marks....FWIW

Sure it was turned. That's part of the process of manufacture.
