Default SA Rebuild

Received a 12/64 SA rebuild. It has lockbar sights. Were sights changed out to postwar sights during rebuilds in the 60's, or could these be original sights?

Upgrading sights was generally something that would have happened during re-build, but there is a possibility that they weren’t changed. And if it came from CMP, you never know
what they did to it!!

If it was rebuilt at SA in the 60s then they would have been changed during rebuild. Where did you get it?

Default not really much chance of lackbars on 60s rebuilds

Lock-bar sights would likely not have made it thru a 60's rebuild. In fact many rebuilds got new old stock Windage and elevation knobs as a matter of practice.

still cool to get some though,
Rob

Default I received a silver sack 12/65 SA rebuild DCM out of Rock Island

1983 It was a reparked SA 3.3 receiver. New 11/65 barrel, all new walnut wood, glass bedded at the bottom around the trigger group, all parts were new, late model sights, new gas cylinder. The only old part was the milled trigger guard and I believe that the guy put that on just because it looked cool. I changed it to a new stamped TG because I did HP shooting with it.
It came with new sling, cleaning kit, and delron guards on the op rod and front sights. The story I got was that these were a group of rebuilds that was to be sold to a foreign country. The deal apparently fell through. I would say that the chance of a Garand not receiving late sights on a post war rebuild was nil.

I received a SA rebuild years back with the original barrel and lock bar sights still intact. They slip through now and then.
