Default Sealed case of 30 round USGI J mags. Open or not.

I acquired a sealed case of 50 USGI J 30 round mags.

Should I open it or not?

I can tell from experience that its a bulk pack and the individual mags are not separately packaged.

Seems to me that this type of item is always worth more as singles as opposed to a sealed pack.

Purchased for $25 per mag.

Should I open or not?

The benefit as I see it of opening it is to be able to care for each mag with a light coat of oil. The original package is not open but they never end up 100% protecting the contents for a 1966 package.

Like I said, the individual mags always seem to be worth more than the sealed bulk pack.

I just opened the bag.

Very pleasing experience to open a sealed 1966 bulk pack!

I made the right decision in my opinion.

Mags were bone dry but free from rust from the examples I have had time to inspect. I mean super dry like what metal looks like when 100% degreased.

I will oil them heavily and place each in a zip lock bag.

I would not advise leaving these bulk packs sealed. The inner protective lining was compromised by pure and simple age.

I will defer from posting my pics and supply this video from a forum member ACampComLegacy a few years ago. The video represents exactly what they look like.

Thanks to member Gardenvalley for this mag deal. $25 for a unissued J mag X 50 is a pretty good deal.

Those in that video looked like brand new when the bag was opened. None of the mags had any spots, rust or issues of any kind. They were completely dry. I am the guy in the video you see opening them. They were brought to me by another forum member here (ACampComLegacy) as he wanted proof of the sealed bag being opened while he recorded.
