Default Traveling with Rifles

This may be the wrong forum to ask this question, and if so I apologize, but I was wondering what you all do when traveling for CMP matches and/or to and from the CMP stores?
I'm in Louisville, but love to try to get down to Talladega when I can, but it is definitely at least an overnight trip, and I always feel weird 'sneaking' my match rifles into the hotel, especially post-Vegas. I guess I'm just worried that someone is going to see me walking in with a few rifle cases and get the wrong idea. The other option of leaving them in the car is not really feasible either.

How do you all deal with this?

Maybe find a motel where you can park directly in front of your room's entrance? That way you are only sneaking it 10 feet or something. Otherwise, pack the rifles in bags that don't look like rifle cases.

The less anyone sees of your gun stuff the better.
Shift all your gear so you don’t need to expose the guns, prior to getting to hotel.
Keep everything under a blanket if they can see in the windows.
Don’t wear gun related clothing into hotel.
I think some of these thefts are inside jobs tipped off by employees.
Don’t be rude to any employees.
Don’t blab you are a competitor.
Keep window stickers to a minimum.
Ask for first floor and park outside that window.Under the lights.
If shooting agames event multiple days,do all your gear shuffling at the range after the match in prep for next days event.
Take only your overnight bag into hotel.
No reloading or cleaning guns in your room.

Yes a hard case golf bag. If anyone asks just tell them you want to clean your clubs before you play.

I don't think I would want to be seen with a golf bag.

All good advice. Never understood why a gun guy loads his vehicle up with gun related stickers and then wonders why it got broken into. If I leave my rifles in my expedition they are so buried under stuff it would take 10 minutes to find them. Especially like rearranging my gear while still in a gun friendly environment (before i leave the range).

There are large zippered bags with wheels meant to go OVER whole golf bags available at most Walmart type stores. They will safely hold rifles in soft cases inside. They are lockable. The bag brings no attention to you and can be brought into motels without issue.

If you are bringing a single rifle, you could put the soft case into a sturdy garment bag.

The nice thing about the over golf bags is that you can get a cable lock and lock the whole bag to a car seat while you are travelling.

I never leave weapons overnight in any vehicle.

Thank you for this (and everyone else) for the great feedback and ideas. This will all be incredibly helpful! Plus, the 'over the golf bag' allows me to sneak a new South Store purchase back into the house when I get home!

certain hotels in anniston are gun friendly, give discounts etc. 1/2 folks there are shooting at least at the places we go to... I have never worried.
