Default Using -WW-1 nickel oilers

Hi All,

Hoping to do the "smart thing" here!

I finally got around to buying two WW-1 complete nickel oilers. I would like to put some lube oil in them & leave them in the butt of the rifles. Our club does a show & tell for various groups on occasion.

One side of my brain, thinks that filling them with even some oil, is looking for trouble. (LEAKAGE at seal?)
They are at least 85 years old. The wilder side (of this small brain) thinks it would be nice to show people, that they still work as intended.

Your thoughts?

It is just "Show & Tell" ... why do you feel that you must put oil in them?

LOL Just a wild hair! I KNOW it does not make sense ...it's like the guy with a car that had 700 HP & never drives it!

Had one in either my 03 or Garand, forget which....the constant firing caused the tube to collapse on one side.

Probably an issue with a weak tube but still I was glad it didn't have oil in it to soak up my stock.

Hi pmclaine,

After reading the reply's & thinking about it. Putting oil in a 70 or 80 year old, plastic or even a metal oiler at this time, is NOT a smart thing to do!

I applied a light coat of RIG to the applicator threads & on the applicator wire rod & calling it good.

Best wish's,
broom
