From what I have read it should have a X stamped on the top flat part by the handle.

Earlier SC bolts have nothing on the top and a single-digit number on the bottom with a "swept" handle. I don't have information when this gave way to the X-marked bolts.

Mine is not of the earlier SC. Mine is 4.8 mil with 11-43 barrel. I do believe that is towards the end of the SC rifles made. That is according to vishooter

I have a NOS bolt with an X on the flat of the flat of the handle where it attaches to the body. The X is not a traditional "hard" stamping like you see with other types of bolts. I have seen this style of X before and it is original to the manufacture of my bolt. Does anyone have any commentary on this type of mark? Smith Corona, Remington, etc...?

I'm not crafty enough to post a picture, but the X Is defenitly a factory mark.

I've not seen one with a "deep" struck "X". Those I have (2) and have seen (maybe half a dozen) are rather light.

Mine has a rather lightly struck X as well. But on the underside there's an 8 stamped with the punch mark stamped over it almost completely obliterating it.
