Default Field Grade Stock Question

Hello,

I received a FG today and was curious as to whether the stock is in spec for a FG. It looks to me like someone sanded the heck out of the area where it mates to the heel of the receiver, so much so that I can see up into the inside of the receiver. Is this normal?

Thank you,

Steve

Yup, that's a field Grade

Looks a lot like my field grade, even the spotting or patina type finish on the receiver. Anyone know what gives the metal that white spotty look?

Yeah I’m not sure if it’s corrosion, unless they treated it somehow. It looks more like a stain from something. If it is corrosion, it’s not like any I’ve ever seen.

That's a "no-back porch" stock, for sure! Seems to me that there should be some wood under the complete heel, but I can't find anything in the Field Grade description that covers this area (no pun intended).

Agreed... I’d think this would be far enough from spec to put it in rack grade territory, but then again I’ve never ordered a field grade.

you should see what some of the other field grade stocks look like. You should be happy you got what you did

+1 as far as I can tell; I just rec'd a couple of Service Grades that looked to have ~Rack Grade wood IMO.
