Ugly or not, but if the CMP cert will reflect that it came from the US Army hydro-dipped, it's an unusual gun to grab. My GUESS is that the individual soldier that carried it had it hydrodipped on his own. Did he get in trouble for it? How long did he get to carry it? Who knows? Again, just a guess. Hydrodipping has been around since the '80s, so who knows when it was done. I would think post 2000 though with that type of intricate pattern.

Dump the Hogue, put some cool stocks on it, and rock it out.

I'd bet that if the CMP lifted its "one per customer" rule for this gun the bids would increase. Not many will throw in their only chip on a Halloween gun. But a quick trip through the sand blaster and park tank may be a good option for people at end of the RNG line.

I suppose you could always keep a pdf or printed copy of the auction with pictures and toy could use that as 'proof'.

It may have come back from the army. But there isn’t anything to say that this wasn’t done by one of the other services that may have laxer rules about this stuff. Say the Air Force or maybe the Coast Guard. Then sent back to the army when whoever was done with it.

Well, it sold for $1,678.00, which I believe is one of the cheapest 1911s yet to see if I remember correctly. Someone got a good deal...if you like that kind of thing!

I would have been on that like white on rice had I not received a service grade a couple of weeks ago. It is the cheapest auction one that I've seen yet.
