In the really weird thought dept: have any of you done -or considered doing - a conversion of a drill garand to 22 LR? I imagine it'd be a blast - probably have to hand-crank the bolt, but so what. Good use for an otherwise whacked up rifle, I'd think. Maybe re-line the barrel with a slightly offset 22 liner.

I have not seen that done but I have a spare 1903a3 drill rifle that I considered doing. Problem is it requires tools I used to have and it looks to be a costly and time intensive project so I am more likely to find another use myself. A Garand would likely be more costly and expensive to do.
JMHO but where there is a desire someone can find the way! |

Yeh, I'm working on the '03 drill, too. So far, so good and it looks like it's gonna be pretty straightforward as long as I keep it a single shot (first things first, get it operating then work on the magazine). I'm thinking it doesn't need to be really $$$ as long as things are kept in perspective. The worst expense seems to be that drill garand itself. Find a used 22 barrel to counterbore into the stump of the old barrel or something, then the rest will fall into place. Work, yes, but healthy mental exercise.
