Pretty easy to see that the bore is not concentric with the barrel OD in that second photograph. Had a brand new 700 Rem with the same issue once and as it heated up it'd throw lead all over the place, didn't matter what ammunition was put through it. It ended up with a new Shilen barrel.

Is the bore bored and reamed that way or is the muzzle worn in one area due to excessive cleaning over the years? A bore light and bore scope come in handy in these situations.

Is that a trick of the lighting?

disassembled and took it to my local gun smith. he took a .301 gauge pin and it fell straight through the barrel with a slight nudge...soooooo....there is an answer the barrel is shot out. now the question is...do i try to find another Springfield barrel so i can keep its historical accuracy (yes re barreled in 51 but the rest of the parts are all Springfield. haven't checked their history part wise) or do i get a new barrel?

I may be wrong here but with a TE of 2, a .301 should fall through the bore. Both my TE gauges read .304 at the 2 mark. The barrel may have other problems but I don't think it is shot out. It just looks to me like it is not indexed correctly but what do I know.

You do realize a 30 caliber bullet (for '06) is .308 diameter. Therefore you still have .0035 in rifling height.
