Awesome to get a preview of the 40X rifles....especially the shortened stock ones, since I ordered one. They look better than I thought. Thanks!!!

Love the updates abeal!

I probably would have grabbed that SHM/WRA carbine just for the stock.

If I lived a few hours closer, I would have been there at opening time this morning, hoping it was still there. I always wanted one of those, but so far I haven't been at the right place at the right time.

Hey abeal, thanks for all your great pictures and the great well worded report. I ordered a m40X and I was glad to see that they all look really good. I was also happy to see that they are all of the later 700 style action types which is the one I prefer over the older plain uncheckered straight bolt 722 style actions. Abeal, I have one question: Are any of the m40XB receivers marked "U.S." ? Thanks.

Thanks.

I think that Winchester service grade was in the 5 million serial number range. It was the third carbine from the left in the bottom rack along the left wall. I did not even think about buying the carbine after getting a Kimber and a Remington .22. Hmm, I never even gave the SA/SHM cartouche a second thought. Now you guys got me wondering if I should have taken it home. The only reason I picked it up was because I thought it had a push button safety. I can't remember who manufactured that particular stock. If someone buys it, please give some details. It was a power washed stock.

From what Bob said about the washing setup in Anniston, it sounds like they wash the stocks separately so there is no guarantee a stock goes back on the same carbine it came off of. I guess the same can be said when a carbine visits an armory.

Mine does. I am a newbie with these rifles so I did not know to look.

I will try to take better pictures this weekend when I am home during daylight hours.
