Default Any .22's or bolt action rifles (not drill rifles) at the North Store?

Kicking around the idea of taking a drive from Chicago this weekend or next and wanted to know if it was worth it. I've got 1 CMP Garand and don't want/need another but carbine's, 22's and 03A3's are of interest to me. M1C's and M1D's would be of interest but probably out of my price range.

I would wait till the national matches start this summer. The last few years they had stocked the NS a little. Plus you can shoot or just check out the goings on. I have not seem any 22 rifle in long long long time. They allways have a large selection of M1 C's , and D's ..
Good luck.

The only 22's the NS had are B/R's. Most of them were in pretty rough shape. They had quite a few different models. To try and build a complete rifle from the B/R's would cost more than buying the complete rifle.

So here is the thing. My wife is willing to make the drive Thursday the 25th for a visit to the North store Friday morning but I'd like to make it more fun for her by doing something else while we are there. Can anyone offer any ideas of other things do in the area?

There can always be something new on the racks, but most likely will only be M1C's & D's in stock. There are lots of attractions in the area but most have closed for the season. I would wait a month or 2 and maybe take a ferry ride to Put-In-Bay.

Well I guess it depends on what your wife considers fun.

I stopped in Saturday afternoon on my way home from Amherst and aside from the usual drill A3's and M1C and D's and rebuilt air rifles they had 2 M1 '06 Specials, 20 or so M1D Specials and a couple of carbine barreled receivers. There were two rough 52C barreled receivers, maybe half a dozen 52D's with some kind of bloop tube barrel extension and a couple of mossberg's.

The box of $5 web slings was shoved under the table and I was the only customer in the place at 3:15.

Port Clinton and Sandusky are kind of dead this time of year. But PC has the Liberty aviation museum and Toledo has the museum of the Great Lakes the Toledo art museum and Hollywood casino if you want to toss some coin away.

While in the area you might consider Tony Packo's Cafe in Toledo. About half an hour away - the original Front Street location. They have a website. "Gas with class" is their motto.

I'm thinking I might pick up a .22 barreled receiver to have as a project. I know I've been told that it would be cheaper to buy a complete rifle but I'm thinking that this might be fun even if it slowly costs me an extra couple of hundred over the next year or so. I think we have 7,000 rounds of .22 at home so I'm thinking it would be fun to build something to shoot it with. I know there would be more to do if we waited a couple of months but we are both off for five days and figure a little road trip will do us good.

I've found the Mon Ami Winery seafood buffet on Saturdays is a nice way to appease the wife. I assume it still runs in the winter time for locals but you may want to check. Not inexpensive.

Wish I could recommend something in their 22 BR line, but they're all beyond it in my opinion. IF you already have a lot of parts for a 44US, or one of the 52's or whatever then yes, but if you don't it's going to be a real time consuming and expensive prop. I think the BR's a re cool for that instance or if you need to rebarrel one... but how often does one of those barrells wear out? Two of the 44's have bolts but they have welds and weld-cuts all over the place, too. Better ( IMO ) choice would be to buy a complete 44 and take it apart about fifty times. Now... if you want to get a BR to sleeve into an 03 Springfield receiver/gun that's another story...I was out there last week and the some of the 03a3 drillers looked interesting for parts, etc.
