Default Nelson Custom guns question

I bought a Springfield M1a from a friend this passed week, it came from an estate sale. This rifle is a NM m1a that was stored for a while.

Springfield Armory #039XXX
TRW trigger group
TRW bolt
Douglas heavy barrel
NM stock, bedded
Unitized gas cylinder
GI flash hider

Question is I bought this sight unseen for $1400, was this a decent deal?

I tried to look up the # and all I could find was around 1986/7. Any info on what configuration it was sold in?

You need to email Lexi (at Springfield Armory) and give her the Serial Number. Just a simple letter you recently acquired a Springfield M1a and would like to verify the factory configuration.
She will reply rather quickly to inform you how the receiver number left Springfield Armory. You will know exactly how it was built with what barrel contour (standard, NM or Super match or if it was sold as a receiver only.

Let us know when you find out, oh, and yes you did very well it that is a factory built National match with all USGI parts!

Yes sir, a Glenn Nelson M1A for 1400 is a great buy. I have a couple of Nelson guns from the mid 80s that still shoot great. Both were purchased as std M1As and then sent to Glenn for work.

Thank you everyone for the information

This is the email from Springfield

The firearm that corresponds to serial number processed on 039xxx was manufactured in 1986 as a receiver only and sold to a dealer to be built.

Sincerely,
Springfield ArmoryŽ
420 West Main Street
Geneseo, IL 61254

The receiver was built by Nelson into a NM with GI parts and a heavy Douglas barrel. The owner then must have stored it and not shot it much.

I would take pictures but my phone and computer don't get along, but I'm planning to shoot it at Perry in the Springfield match this summer.
