Default Why can't the CMP..

.. purchase surplus ammo from other countries and sell to the public? Isn't that what they did with the other ammo in the past or is there a legality issue with importation from other countries? It seems to me that if they could get the AMA and HXP past the alphabets, they could get IVI, PMP or ROK too. Maybe the UN treaty is restricting them. Perhaps the political headaches make it not worth the effort. I never thought I would say that I miss the nineties, but...

LOL It's all gone.deputy85 bought it all up in the 90s.Seriously,as has been pointed out before there are no factories making 30 or 40 year or older surplus ammo.We are at the tail end of the supply of surplus .30-06 ammunition. When the laws on surplus importation changed in 1986 it came in in shiploads for years and was sold by the shipload and now were at the tail end of it.It is an item in finite supply. What will be interesting to see is if any comes to market when the Korean rifles show up for sale on the U.S.market.

Indeed. It is simple supply economics. You have a finite resource that once it is gone, is gone and as the supply dries up, increases in price. I am sure CMP is doing all it can to get more surplus ammo.

Rumor is CMP is also trying to get new ammo made but don't expect it to be the same price as surplus.

By 1972, it was worn out. As the caliber was obsolete, they did not replace it, especially given the change to high speed loading tools.
