Default Garand Stock Proof ID

Hello,

I got a Garand stock recently that I thought had two circle P proofs, one stamped within the other. It turns out one is a circle P and the other is a small P thatís just a little offset to it. Iíve never seen an uncircled small P. Does anyone have any info on who these were stamped by and what era?

Thanks!

Steve

I would venture to say a rebuild proof. Not sure which arsenal used which style of proofing, but I would guess later 50s or 60s time frame.

It's most likely a rebuild proof. The uncircled sans-serif P looks like a Tooele proof P stamp to me.

As mentioned, not uncommon for a rebuild. Also seen the "plain P" proof on LEAD rebuilds too

Thanks guys, any idea what era these were used in? I’m wanting to build a Korean War rifle, but am worried that plain p might have been used later.

Does your stock have the small ordnance stamp on the bottom of the grip?

mine has this configuration. It also has a Rock Island Armory EB stamped on left side of the butt

Take off the butt plate and see if there are any numbers or letters, if so it's a WW2 SA stock, perfectly acceptable for a Korean war rifle.
