Default 6/22/13 purchase

Stopped by the North Store today and walked out with my first Winchester! It's a Field Grade 6 digit - May '42 - OG Arsenal rebuild in really nice shape. Cool greenish park, beautiful GI wood (in my eyes!), and almost entirely WWII parts. Barrel is SA-2-47 with TE 2 1/2 and ME 3. HAPPY...HAPPY...HAPPY!!

The store was actually fairly buisy and I was able to assist a current Coast Guardsman from California pick out his first Garand. Feels good to be able to answer a few basic questions. It wasn't that long ago "Gordie" explained a few things to me. Always a good experience with the customers and staff there.

It's actually a 5-digit and looks good, too.

Winchester started at serial number 100,000 so what dstout is saying is that the rifle is one of the first 99,999 produced, hence a 5 digit.

Thanks for clarifying dstout's comment...it had me a bit puzzled but makes sense now.
With the way things are now I didn't think I'd see the CMP offering many Winchesters so I had to Jump on this one. Happy to get one at all let alone a lower serial numbered one.

It's a Winchester Afficianado thing... we could do like accounting with Rock-ola etc carbines and dang near everything but it's seen most with the Win-Gars.
