My first Garand. Itís a CMP service grade. HRA receiver from 1954-1956. The barrel is a SA from Aug of 1943, and the bolt is also SA from 1944-1945. From what I can tell the stock is likely a replacement from when it was rebuilt by the Army in the 50s or early 60s. Itíll have to open it up to get dates on any other parts. Iím about to go on a trip, so itíll be a couple weeks until I can do anything with it.

I was able to pick up a 6 million 609 serial number M1 Garand at the South Store while there for AMC class. Very nice rifle. Can't wait to put a few rounds thru it.

I picked up the Winchester below at the TMP store this past Saturday and am drawn to some of the similarities it has with yours.

The rack number while a little different in shape of the numerals looks to have been applied in much the same way. The numbers on mine appear to have been applied with a Magic Marker and not painted. The area where the numerals were applied was prepped in much the same way as yours.

The Birch stocks also nicely matched. Got to wonder if they might have been in the same location?

The WRA is in the serial range where it is possible to have a Springfield with the same number and that looks like it might have happened in this case since there was an A added to make the serial numbers different.

The WRA also had the barcode Inventory/Serial Tag like yours.

Too bad these things can't tell us more about their past

Default Recent SAFG with RIA stamps

Just for info about recent FGs...2166631 mailorder shipped 2/28...shows lots of handling patina, which is what I like about FGs,yet MW2TE3. Interesting RIA stamps, 3/65 SA BBL. Really decent matching wood, steamed out a few dings with the ol teakettle

I received my first two Garlands on Friday!

They are both SG SA’s with new CMP wood and bright, shiny bores. I have looked them over from the outside and taken out the trigger group, but I have not seen much gunk and zero sand so I feel lucky. I will get to shoot them over Easter weekend, so I am pumped. Thanks, CMP!

My first M1 came today. It's a field grade. All in all I'm very happy with it. Super glad I got USGI wood and not hackberry. Barrel numbers aren't too bad either. Gonna hit the range this weekend and stretch it's legs out to 600 yards if I can. Barrel also appears to be it's original one based on the date of it and the receiver serial number.

FG & SG arrived today.

FG: SA 4361395 SA 12-53 barrel MR: 3+/TR: 2+ USGI RIA stock, IHC trigger group w/Turk dope taped in, IHC bolt, HRA OpRod

Some Turkish armorer like sanding!

SG: HRA 5660435 SA 3-44 barrel (?!) MR:3/TR:4 CMP stock, SA A-15 bolt, SA trigger group (with tape residue from Turk dope, I assume), SA OpRod

How unusual is it to have an HRA with a SA wartime barrel?

I was fortunate enough to go to the CMP myself and hand pick my Garand. A Field Grade rifle with a six digit serial number dating it between May and June of 1941. And it measured a 1+ at the muzzle and a 2 at the throat. IHC Op Rod and Bolt with an LMR barrel. I don’t even mind the Hackberry stock as it is the darker brown coloring and is quite beautiful to look at.

I do plan on eventually making it all Springfield and Date Correct except for possibly the barrel.

I am glad to be a part of this great community and look forward to learning from you all!
