Default Where to go?

Iíve been out of the loop for a long time on Garands. Is the South Store different than the marksmanship Park? If they are different which one would be the best to hit with my limited time? Thanks yíall.

Yes, they are different. The South Store is in Anniston; see their webpage here:

http://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/cmp-stores/south-store/

The Talladega Marksmanship Park is in Talladega, about 25 minutes away from the South Store. See their webpage here:

http://thecmp.org/competitions/talla...smanship-park/

As to which one to hit, by all means, hit both! However, if for some reason you can't, then which is best depends on what you want to buy. See Tom's daily report threads in this forum to get a feel for what's generally available.

Still, if you can afford a couple of hours in the Anniston/Talladega area, you can hit both.

Rick, thank you for the clarification. I assume you can buy rifles at the marksmanship. Is the selection more numerous at the Park?

Yes, rifles are for sale at the TMP. The South Store carries a max of 66 rifles on the racks. I think the TMP carries about 45, but I'm not positive. Both stores carry slings and other accessories. From what I've seen lately in the daily reports by Tom (PH66) and others, my sense of it is that the South Store has the largest variety of rifles (historical, collectible, and shooter grade) and accessories. However, it sounds as if the TMP has the the largest selection of CMP Special and CMP Field Special rifles which are excellent shooter grade rifles.

Unannounced surprises are always possible at either store at any time.

Don't forget mail order rifles also They're available here:

http://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/rifle_sales/m1-garand/

Again, the two stores are less than 30 minutes apart, and who knows what may be available at one compared to the other at any given time. Check out both store locations on a map and you'll see how easy it can be to swing by both on your way through the area.

I think I’ll just have to go to both then. I saw the south store opens at 08 and then the park at 11.

Sales tax at TMP is slightly less than at the south store also. Definitely visit both.

Note that the opening hours of both depend on the day of the week.

And Laphroaig brought up an excellent point; sales tax is lower at the TMP.
