The one dad carried for at least part of the time changed hands at the end of the shift. It was the last line of defense weapon, inside a guarded gate, inside a guarded entry building, in the CONUS.

As far as Provenance. I still have a copy of the arms room receipts that show by serial number the two 1911a1s that were issued to me in 1972. Even knowing that it will be a long shot I hope to get a chance at one of them.

Interesting. Guess things were/are done differently by different organizations. I last had a 1911 issued as a young Cavalry trooper in the FRG 75-78. When we cleared post, arms room was one of the items on the list and our weapons cards were turned in. Not really something I would ever have considered keeping. Good luck in the hunt.

Hate to say it Mark but before this is over with it will probably cause more than a few headaches. Sorry for the trouble.

A few thoughts to ponder:
  • How many people will even remember the serial number of their assigned 1911?
  • I seem to remember seeing somewhere only 6 or 7 of us have been reunited with an issued Garand.
I just remember all my issued 1911s had a serial number that started with S, so any S serial-numbered 1911 for me please CMP.

I dont think more than a handful really remember their number and few may be given the chance to even buy one. not going to be much of a problem.

Nice try on that one good sir. hehehe I'm willing to bet a very large sum of money that none of your previous issued pistols were included in the first release to the CMP, and if/when they do, the auction site will be buzzing.
