IIRC, without digging out the receipt, I purchased mine in June of 2017 and it was $1050 as Shomway stated.

What all is involved in converting a Garand to .308? I've been toying with the idea of getting a field grade to convert.

Nothing more than the barrel. All other parts will work with either barrel.

I think it prudent to also install the .308 spacer to prevent accidentally loading .30-06 cartridges into the rifle.

Do you still have to worry about the ammo you shoot through it?

Standard Specials were $1050, Field Grade Specials were $850, both are a steal!

How many of these CMP 308 Specials have been sold?

It's probably reasonable to guess a .308 Garand will have similar ammunition restrictions to the .30-06. It should be fine with anything close to military ball ammo. It's still the same gas system.
