Default IHC stocks and Julian dating

I have 4.4 and 4.5 million IHCs and I'm on the prowl for stocks. LMR barrels 1-54 and 5-53 respectively. What is an approximate date range to look for in a stock? Would it be x months or weeks on either side of the barrel date?

Hello

Any stock Julian numbers ending in 2 or 3 would be good
There was a big build up of stocks in 1952 ahead of start of IHC production. 1952 stocks are a lot more comin

Someone may correct me, but IHC stocks rarely if ever match the date of production of the rifle. Kingpin is correct. IHC had stocks from 1952 long before they had rifles to use them on.

Thank you gentlemen!

At USRifleCAL30M1.com they only list December for each serial number range. Is that because records are unavailable?

I would not expect a close correlation between barrel date and a Julian date on the stock. The stock manufacturers sent a huge number of stocks to IHC during the time IHC was having production difficulties so it was not just in time delivery of stocks. It wasn't necessarily FIFO (First In First Out). Stockpiles (pun intended) of stocks built up during periods of few rifles being accepted and shipped out. This is part of the reason you will see relatively few stocks with Julian dates ending in a "3", there were so many 1952 dated stocks in inventory, IHC didn't need many more stocks in 1953.

Seems as though minimum info is the norm on this sight, at least as far as IHCís are concerned. Plenty of where I bought it, barrel info, and if itís a mixmaster. Donít see much stock data.

I posted this image a few weeks back. I'm told it's an IHC stock. It's on a Philippine return rifle - a six digit SA - that was rebuilt by Tooele in 1966.
