Default SG 4.7 HRA w/ 8-44 SA Barrel

Hi all, just received my SG HRA. It's a 4.7 mil and has an HRA op rod, 3/8 das stock, Winchester trigger housing, hra bolt, and an SA 8-44 barrel. From what I'm reading, there is very little chance the barrel is original. It does have a "P" mark and punch mark, along with an "R" and "E". I'm trying to upload photos at the moment. What do you guys think?

Where's the punch mark on the barrel at?

Hope that opens. It's close to the "P"

Is the chamber of the barrel in the white? Typically for a HRA the punch would be in the loop of the P. By the time HRA made 4.7 rifles they were using all HRA parts except for the LMR barrels which appears some of the time. I have heard that some could possibly have a 6528287 SA bolt. I have not heard of a SA 44 barrel on these. Maybe someone like Dave McClain could shed some light.

You will never know this rifle’s story for sure. A mititary armor may have removed a good barrel from a receiver with a problem and put it on your HRA receiver to replace a damaged or worn barrel. A CMP armor may have judged the receiver to be of Service Grade quality but the barrel measurements were of rack or field grade quality so a swap was made with a Service Grade quality barrel that they had at their station (I watched this senario happen during a tour of the armory). Ya never know. But is it original...based on a bunch of Garand books I’ve read...doubtful.

The barrel is not original. Next question?

Looking forward to pics. What are the barrel measurements?

Not trying to be a jerk, but why would you think an '44 SA barrel would be original to the HRA receiver?

SA made 100k + replacement barrels during the war that were still be used during post-war arsenal rebuilds. Your HRA rifle ended up getting one of them at some point.
