Amazing! I purchased it off gunbroker 4 years ago. It came with original CMP collector grade certificate. Thanks for the update. FYI, I also posted on H&R marking site one I purchased form Tony of Orion 7 back in 2010.

I purchased a rifle at tthe South store last year in the 5.816 range that has a sa 3 52 barrel , all other markings are consistant with your list. It appears to have an original stock with no rebuild marks. Is this something youv'e seen before?

CMP has been known to rebarrel sales rifles that had barrels that didn't measure up on TE & ME. I suspect yours is one of them but without a photo of the side barrel markings it's only a guess.

The only markings in my rifles barrel are S-A-3-52. When I lifted it off the rack I noted it was covered in cosmoline and looked pretty ugly. Armorer JC gave the muzzle a 1 and the throat a 3 so I took a chance and bought it cause it was getting late and we had to get on the road. After cleaning it up it turned out to be a very nice rifle with some stock dings and no other issues. Could they have used some left over barrels to complete this and other rifles in 1955?

You really have to wonder what was going on at SA in first 4 months of 1955. Some guns have 3-55 barrels or even 4-55 barrels mixed in with the 1-55 and 2-55 barreled receivers. 5.44 and 5.45 seem to be in order but when you get into 5.79 to 5.87 they bounce all over. Were they having receiver inspection troubles?
