Default Barrel Bushing Thickness Question???

I've noticed that barrel bushings vary in thickness among 1911 & A1 pistols. My CMP Ithaca slide/frame came fitted with a thin bushing and my Colt Model 70 series has a thick (collet) bushing the same thickness as a Nat Match marked bushing. The thick bushing also appears used on a post war hardened GI replacement slide seen on a friends CMP 1911A1.

Would anyone be so kind as to explain/guess the time period where thin bushings prevailed before the intermingling with thick bushings.
I presume thick bushings are the late variety and specific to a particular manufacturer.

Too clarify a thin bushing will be flush with the checkered face of the recoil spring plunger. A thick bushing will extend beyond the checkered face of the plunger.

Thank you.
