Someone posted one for sale in the FOR SALE forum that came from CMP auction which had a different type of butt plate. Maybe it was old ironside but probably wasn't.
Question I remember being asked in the past about the number made: http://forums.thecmp.org/showthread.php?t=35271 BQ said 100,000+. From my weakening memory I believe I once asked how many extras were made. Don't quote this, but I thought he said double the number released? Maybe he said 80K? Maybe it never happened. Where's my TV remote? Last edited by tenOC; 01-01-2015 at 01:47 PM. |

I belong & support a 1911 forum, there we can post pictures right into the conversation. It's nice cause once it's posted it's there for ever { no pictures expiring } unless deleted by the poster. You can also add verbage in between if you want to make refrence to something. It's like a Photo bucket on going slide show. Maybe I just want it all.

Here is the posting of the "other" butt plate I mentioned being bought from the CMP auction site. It appears the pics have expired, at least I'm not abel to view them for the example. Someone in that thread might have them stored still.

ten, the number to which you refer sounds about right. Makes sense they would have approx. twice or so the number needed for refurb.
I thought the spare wire stock butt plate I have is a post war replacement. It is marked P237614 and it is in fact, a fake. The real replacement wire stock butt plate is described here: http://www.instructables.com/id/HOW-...-RECOIL-PLATE/ I used this link as a reference preparing for my first M1A1 purchase: http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=636078 A recent CMP auction sold an M1A1 for 2K. It had a crack running a good distance from where the recoil plate meets the stock. I didn't bid on it since I'm not sure how or if the crack would affect performance. I'm guessing shooting it would leave to further cracking without some kind of repair. Other than the crack, what a great looking M1A1. http://cmpauction.thecmp.org/detail....arbine-5169184 Another M1A1 sold on GB for $1800 not long ago and it had more of the cracking as I described in a previous post. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=442841187 Last edited by m1a1fan; 01-01-2015 at 05:06 PM. Reason: Updating replacement wire stock butt plate to show P237614 marking is a fake |

It was an embossed butt plate if I remember rightly. Last edited by tenOC; 01-01-2015 at 04:18 PM. |
