$1650. It was a Gunbroker deal. The fellow who was selling it emailed me a message saying a "collector" contacted him and told him to pull it from the auction and re-establish the price higher. He needed the money so he left it. Sort of a wild deal.....I realley did not think I had a chance in heck.

Default Educate me...

Hi Mike, Great looking M1. Good job on the score.

I do have a question about the stock cartouches though. (Only to educate my limited knowledge, not to "flame" your Garand)

Did any IHC stocks (Produced by Overton's, I believe) get stamped with BOTH a DAS and an Ord. wheel? If that is the case are they more rare than non-DAS/Ord wheel stocks.

Also, the breeches on the bottom of the Ord wheel are unknown to me. They appear as rectangles, "bricks" if you will. Are these unique to IHC?

Thanks,
~Matt

Default "!745" barrel stamp

"1745" barrel stamp indicates stock manufactured Day 174 of 1955.

Does the Ord. wheel on this stock indicate an arsenal rebuild?

Matt

I'm being eduacted as well. I read (maybe Duff) made an observation that some of the IHC Overtones had both the DAS and Ord Wheel. What's interesting about this M1 is that, I beleive it has been in this family since 1956. I had contact with a family member about the history. This M1 had great sentimental value for the owners family. I don't think this IHC has been circulated outside the family. I'm not saying its original...just has not been circulated.

Great question....I'm still trying to sort it out. That may be the answer for the markings.
