Default Winchester M1 Louisville Gun Show Find

Hello All,

Just curious...

I purchased a Winchester from a very nice older gentleman at last weekends National Gun Day in Louisville. The rifle had that look and feel and I had to take it home.

A couple interesting notes:

Negatives (Bad News First)

1. The barrel is very worn (&dark). I gauged it at a 4 ME and 6 TE

2. There is a very small Fed Ord import stamp on the barrel

3. There is an extremely faint (missed it on first inspection) Fed Ord mark on the RH FR receiver leg (almost has a “silk screen” look to it)

Positives

1. It has what looks like to be the original Winchester Barrel.

2. The finish on the rifle looks to be original (chamber in the white)

3. It is a somewhat early Winny form the 2nd block (around 10/42)

4. Receiver has a very nice looking lead dipped heel

5. Beautiful WRA GHD stock (that matches the rifle well with a very nice deep red tint)

6. All the major parts are WRA (Bolt, trigger group, op rod, front sight, etc)

7. Type 2 SA Lock Bar sights

I would post pictures but hate Imgur and Photobucket (please let me know if you have another recommendation )

Obviously the import marks hurt the value, but how much? What do you all think?

Either way it is a very cool piece of American history.

Thanks,

Joe

On average you can knock off $100 for an import mark. To me it proves it was overseas. Sounds like you got some great parts as well, care to share what it set you back?

The Fed Ord mark isn't a large as Blue Sky. It's some real history. The stock is a great thing to have. In fact having all those original WRA parts is great. I don't like Imgur(too much like Utube or facebook) and PB is history. I use Post Image.

JJ it all depends on what you gave for it. As far as Import marks go its not a issue for me ,,, as a matter of fact while all those Blue sky and Fed import haters wrote how they hated any imported rifles...I was busy buying lots of IHC/Winchester/ and Early SA rifles....many in vg cond for $400.00 and less 15 years ago. Ive become a shooter rather then a collector... your barrel is worn out but org to the rifle. Look at import marks this way.... Nit Wits will pay a extra $1000.00 for a British LL rifle but think a Fed Ord rifle imported from Israel in the 1980's is worthless...silly in my book as NONE of the LL rifles saw action where my IHC could have served in the 1967 and 1973 wars defending Israel. In the end sounds like a good rifle find.
