It was an enjoyable morning today at the SS, I must admit, being 4th in line I expected to get a D, but BrianJ, being first in line and putting much more effort into the process, deserved the only one available more than I did. He did neglect to post that his D was a Winchester to boot! Mike said that there was only one D left which he would put out tomorrow (Sat.). I'm a firm believer in Karma, and a nice rifle of some sort will come my way.

That said, I did pick up either the prettiest or ugliest M1 Garand I have ever seen. I decided to get one of the chrome 03A3's and had Mike put it back while I went to the car to get the paperwork. I'm a firm believer in the "more original=more better" school but there was just something about these chrome rifles that I liked. By the time I got back Mike had discovered that the stock had a pretty good crack, so he put that one back for replacement. He then brought out two chrome M1's and I selected one of those, which was actually a few dollars cheaper than the 03A3. Its a 1.03m SA with a number of matching chromed parts including lock-bars, an un-cut -6 Op-rod, -12 bolt, -2 Hammer, and -12 trigger housing. A little Karma flew back my way when Mike found a white leather parade sling to to add the finishing touch. I'll try to post some photos tomorrow.

Stopped at the range on my way home. They had about 20 rifles out, including maybe 5 FG IHC, 5-6 FG&RG WRA's, a few SA SG and 3-4 6.0 m SA's.

My thanks again to Mike, Tom and the other gentlemen I saw today and I hope Rob30-06 and the Hee-Haw gang have a good trip. I bet Rob doesn't have a chrome M1 yet, so I'm one up on him.

Those chrome M1's are starting to grow on me. Since I passed on them yesterday, we'll probably learn they were used by the honor guard at JFK's inaguration. Cool rifles!

I have a chromed 10" M1 bayonet if any of the chromed rifle buyers is interested. It's a cut-down SA 1918 with wood grips. I picked it up on a whim years ago at a gun shop in Lenoir City, Tennessee.

Tom, what were the balance of rifles not mentioned in your recap? Specials perhaps?

Thanks,
John

No CMP Specials and other rifles not listed today are about the same as the Thursday opening report, M1D/C’s not combo’s and Correct grade about the same.

I miss in-store pictures. Why did this become forbidden?

Were you the other guy from Tennessee that purchased that Winchester M1D?
I see you are from Clarksville. I will be in Clarksville working at the Trane Plant on Tuesday
