You are correct. The upper band should be blued.

Does the follower have two spot-welds or four spot-welds at each end?

Don't know, JB. I have to dig it out of the safe. The one I removed has 3 on the front and 4 on the rear.

A few years ago I purchased an unissued, unfired 3-43 1903A3 from it's third owner. It was originally sold by the Denver Federal Center in 1947 to the original buyer. I have the original semi triangular box it was packaged in that's marked with a partial flaming bomb on paper packing tape and has the bolt box and wax paper inside. It was sold with a mid 1940's commercial no buckle type 1" size sling which I also have. The bolt, nor the follower have visable scratches you'd expect to see from repeated firing past proof. Pristine? If you can imagine perfection, this is it. It resides well wrapped in the back of my safe.

I once called the Remington Arm museum to see if they might want it after my passing. Believe it or not, they said no. I have no intention of ever firing or selling it for fear someone might actually fire it. I HAVE been offered a substantial amout of money for it but, some things are just so special they deserve preservation.
