Default Reciever-Barrel Born on Date

Have a National Postal Meter 1.5 million receiver which would suggest a born on date by Sept 1943. The barrel is an Inland dated 11-44...over a year later.

Interested in thoughts on the divergent dates between the receiver and the barrel.

Could it have been rebarreled after initial use? Given the demand, it seems unlikely the receiver would have sat around for over a year waiting for a barrel.

Any way to tell or to research?

Easiest way to "research" is to use your eyes and look at your barrel. How is the barrel proofed? In your case, if the barrel is original to the receiver, it should be obvious. NPM used a characteristic proof marking for their assembled carbines

Actually, even easier, NPM was done making carbines in April 1944, so ...

Thanks. I am new to the m1 carbine and just starting to learn my way around. Will look for the NPM marks on the barrel however based on your feedback it appears to have been re-barreled with this later 11-44 barrel

Well a quick way to tell is if the carbine has a type 3 barrel band with the bayonet lug and or a type 2 or type 3 rear adjustable rear sight on it then it's been through a rebuild where barrels were changed as needed and your barrel has been changed for sure.
