Default M1 garand barrel sa 6535446 2 67

A friend of mine has an M1 Garand with a barrel marked "SA 6535446 2 67" with some finer markings over stamped with a "P" and "M". see attached image:

I have seen a few Winchester barrels made in 1965, but I have never seen a SA barrel made that late. Is this common? Does anyone know anything about why this rifle would have such a late date barrel?

Is it possible this was one of the rifles that was refurbished and sent to Vietnam that found its way home in a duffel?

Thanks,

The light stamping is an import mark. These were re barreled for Vietnam. Proved too heavy for the little fellows. I have no first hand account on the heavy part but my dad did.

They don't seem to be all that common. These were the very last barrels SA made. They look like yours with the W1 after the date and a P and M.
