Bolt handle is modified, safety is not GI.

I'm not too sure about this one. It drilled and tapped for a scope on the receiver, but has an original style stock (SA) not RA. I'm wondering if it is a sporter that someone attempted to bring back to mostly original. Another interesting thing is the stock is marked US Property ROTC. It does not have any evidence that I can see of ever being welded on so I don't think it was ever a drill rifle.

Its a turned down bolt handle and after market scope safety. Looks like a sporter that was put back into his BDUs.

I'm thinking I'll get a new original complete bolt for this. I bought this gun with the intention of making a match rifle out of it. I have already ordered a new barrel from CMP. Correctness is not a big issue, but I figure if I'm replacing the barrel, that would be a good time to replace the bolt as well.

I not so sure your stock is original to the rifle; but it doesn't sound like that's a big issue to you.

I'd say for sure not. It is a Remington receiver with SA stock. However, the stock is really nice so I'm gonna keep it. I'm planning on doing a bedding job to it as well. No the correctness does not matter, that's why I got this particular rifle in the first place. I would not want to mod an original rifle.

Has it been polished and blued? That's another give-away it was sporterized in its lifetime. You could also make an 03A4 replica out of it since its already been set up for a scope.

Don't know why the bolt is a disaster? It may not be pretty, but if it works why throw it away???
