Default Buffalo Arms Barrels Need answer tonite please

I posted this question on the " Ask Each Other" forum without much luck. Thought I would try here with the carbine experts! The summary chapters of WAR BABY state that all the free issue barrels from Buffalo Arms were dated. However, on page 207 of WAR BABY it shows a barrel marking of B A stamped vertically with no date. Other examples show dates of 6-43 thru 9-43. Is the Vertical B A marking with no date prior to 6-43? I have a carbine on hold until 1-5-10 am that was built about 6 or 7-43 with a vertically stamped B A and would like to determine if the barrel is original. Thanks for your response!

The answer is yes, but also no. The no is that a BA barrel could have been used at an extended period after its production. They were usually left in stock until it became absolutely necessary to use them. They were considered to be of poor quality and unless the carbine manufacturer ran out of barels, the BA barrel wouldn't be pulled from the parts bin to be used. Also, you didn't mention the make of the carbine, so again, the answer could be No it isn't original or yes it is depending on the make of the carbine.

According to Riesch BA barrels were dated untill 10-43. It would be safe assume that undated barrels were only made after that date.

Riesch is not always right. I'm holding a NPM rack grade with a Buffalo Arms 11-43 dated barrel. It just came from CMP so it's not a fake.

Tim
