This enlargement really brings out the detail. The cartouche matches nothing I have on file for a WWII stock. The shape of the cannon and the buckle are completely different. Anyone else have an original example that matches this?

The argument on cartouches will never be settled in my lifetime. I got a stock directly from the CMP and some indicated the cartouche has humped. Who really knows?

Upon close inspection of the barrel band, it appears to have been cut off the barrel. As I only have one carbine (type II band), I have nothing to compare. I would like to send it to someone who feels experienced enough to validate one way or the other. I'll provide postage both ways.

That is super cool and what a wonderful thing for the family. A great thing for a vet and at the same time a deposit into the goodwill bank for firearm owner/collectors.
