Default Current Rem 700 test fired?

The listing says the barrel and receiver are mis-matched. Has the gun been corrected and safe to fire or is this a display only?

Not sure - this is a clip slotted action, looks like. The M24 fires .308 but is a Remington long action 700. Perhaps the question should be is the bolt appropriate to chamber and action. From the auction bids this does appear to be collectible though. Maybe someone with more knowledge can offer more info. I don't believe this is a display only firearm. :-)

The note attached indicates that it is a 308 receiver, and a 30-06 barrel, if you did't see that...

I saw the tag but the listing states "it fires the 30-06 round". That would indicate to me you CMP is saying it can be fired. I think this listing is unclear as it doesnt address this contradiction

This may have been a USMC M40 receiver; given the serial number range. Not sure how it would end up st Lackland AFB. Some of these may have been repurposed at some point for MWR or shooting clubs.

The seller says "It should be able to fire, it has a 30-06 barrel and a 308 receiver" Well that doesnt fill me with confidence but the bidding would indicate a 308 receiver can fire a 30-06 rd

I would think there would be problems with loading and extracting the spent case as the 308 model 700 is a short action and the 30-06 needs a long action. I can't tell if the magazine box has been changed to accept the -06. Will be interesting to see what it sells for. Almost at $5,000.

Good point. I have noticed that after Orest the auction descriptions are not as good in my opinion. (Ex.-"Sold as is" which infers it has not been checked) and "should be able to fire". I think every auction listing should indicate if it has been head spaced and test fired or not. CMP may be doing this because they have not consulted legal or maybe because they have but making detailed, complete auction descriptions should be the standard. This has been on my mind since i noticed the change in them after Orest left, not just this auction. My 2 cents submitted in hope of greater good
