I'm not sure if the Greeks applied the "u" or it was applied in the U.S. prior to being sent to Greece.

My CMP 1.3 million "Greek return" M1903 has the black "Greek" finish, "B" marked floor plate to indicate pinned floor plate release, a M1903A3 full pistol grip stock with no marks other than the Keystone "K", but no "u" or "P" under the barrel. (Re-barreled at some time with a A.V. 12-18 barrel).

I have a Rock Island 1903 serial number 331695 with a RIA 11-18 barrel date. This also came from the CMP and also has the small u stamp under the barrel like the one in my photo.

ChuckinDenver is correct. He refreshed my memory. The "U" is indeed part of a poorly-stamped hollow "T". And I have indeed seen it on many CMP Greek rifles along with the extra "P" marking below it. And as stated, I believe the markings originated in the U.S., not Greece.

I bought a 1.45m 1934 SA 1903 modified with a SA 7-31 barrel greek. It has the B stamped and pinned floor plate, a B in the stock channel, and the hollow T and a P under the barrel near the muzzle. I also has a U stamped in the butt of the pistol grip with a Z and 1. The stock looks to be SA C but no stamp in the cut off and the last 4 digits stamped in the stock butt and etched on top of the bolt handle which is a Remington bolt. The pics show a shiney varnish ot shellac finish, it has since been stripped and I have 2 coats of Tung oil on it. Should be presentable at 4-6 coats

Barrel T

Stock butt

Fore of floor plate
