Default 25yd. sight in vs. 200yd.

I purchased an original 1943 Remington 03A3 with an "A" front sight. I have only been able to shoot it on a 25yd. range so far. It was a tack driver and shot one hole 5 shot groups from bench rest, dead center on the target. Does this mean that it will be dead on at 200yds? I shot only 150gr. M2 HXP ball for these results. The rear sight was set for 100yds. I know you guys have an answer for this one . . .

I would say that more than likely your windage would be pretty close, but your elevation may need to be adjusted. Try a few rounds at 100 yards and then go to 200. I have been working on a M1D project that I did an initial sight-in at 50 yards, everything was spot on, then 100, still spot on, then shot at some steel at ~230 yards and had to hold it the sight at the top of the steel.

Not sure how different it is, but I know my AR-15’s 50 yard zero is very close to it’s 200 yard zero. I think the bullet is on its way up at 50 and on the way down at 200 but at very similar elevations.

When you do the math, you will find that the bullet and line of sight cross at about 25 yards and 200 yards and the bullet will be about 2" high at 100 yards. There are online ballistics calculators that will verify this.

Thanks guys . . I was thinking that 06 would have similar ballistic characteristics as 5.56 or 7,62x39 where you can sight it in at 25yds (or meters) and it would be pretty much on at 200. Didn't know if I should have my rear sight set at 200 or not however. I think the "A" front sight blade is for 200yds. Could be wrong but I think this is so . .

As noted in earlier response. Might try: http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin...j_simp-5.1.cgi
You can get by with some estimates for velocity, Ballistic Coefficient (say 0.420), etc.
