It was a starting price of $1000 and up from there. The only online gun sales the CMP does, is on auction. I posed the question to Ask CMP, hopefully we will get a definitive answer.

thinking about this, I probably am wrong, I take the words "mail order only" to mean mail order only, but people always have exceptions.

The auction sets the sale price. The 1911 is then subject to all of the rules regarding mail order sales, except the random customer selection. I don't define an online auction as an online sale. I define an auction as bids placed to set the price and the sale is then mail order subject to the required documents mailed in.

I was wrong, but we got a definitive answer. So I guess it was all for the good.

I agree, the CMP does not look on auctions as "on-line sales". As I recall, the CMP DID try on-line sales of rifles a few years back, and decided not to go with it.

Auctions would negate the "one per year" stated by CMP. Some would like that (deep pockets) and some not so much. We'll just have to wait and see. I haven't won a lottery of any kind in my life so I am not too optimistic but I'll drop in the paperwork when it's time and just wait it out.
