Default No Better Place to Die (2019)

Captain Dale Dye was on the David Webb show this morning announcing this project which will be 100% Vet funded. He’s hoping for a June 2019 release, 75th anniversary of D-Day. Based on Dye’s work with Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers, it should be terrific.

I beilieve Robert Murphy wrote the book. I spoke with him several years ago regarding my great uncle who served in the same unit (505th PIR, 82nd AB). Mr. Murphy sent me a copy of the book at that time. Great read.

Hmmm, first I've heard of this book. Gonna have to find a copy. My Uncle was in the 325th and fought there. Can't wait for the movie.

It is a beautiful place in the world today. Not sure how it looked in 1944 at the height of the invasion.

Dye is on the cover of the just-arrived Jan/Feb issue of the Vietnam Veterans of America magazine, with a two page story about his career in the Marines, (PVT to MSG, then OCS) his tours in Vietnam (3 Purple Hearts) and his second career as a Hollywood adviser (Platoon, Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan, The Pacific and many others.)

He says, "My agenda has always been the same, I want to use what influence I have in popular media to shine some long-overdue and richly deserved light on the men and women who wear the military uniform."

I'd say he's been incredibly successful in everything he's done. Quite a guy.

Can't wait. I just cannot get enough of the more modern WWII movies or series.

Except maybe for allowing 03A3s to be used in place of 03s in The Pacific.

From IMDB:

"During the first 3 days of the Normandy invasion, the 82nd Airborne Division struggled to capture and hold crucial crossing points over the Merderet River. As the hours and days passed, the water turned to blood in a battle without retreat."

Sounds interesting.

I always look forward to currently made WWII movies. This one has to be a good one to surpass the popularity of the movie Saving Private Ryan.

The book's focus is the fighting to hold the La Fiere / Le Merderet River bridge just west of St. Mere Eglise.
