Default New member in Hampton Roads, Virginia

Hello all,

I've been lurking for a few months, trying to help educate myself on M1 Garands and the CMP. I received my first Garand from the CMP back in December, and just took delivery of my second last week.

The first was an H&R CMP Special, and after a detail strip and lube, I took it to the range after the holidays and fell in love. At the same time I had ordered a SA service grade. I was contacted by the CMP two weeks ago informing me of the current backlog on those and was offered several substitutes. I lucked into an early (1027XX) Winchester showing a LEAD 65 rebuild. I have several questions about that rifle that I'll post later in the appropriate sub forum.

My interest is certainly peaked with other U.S. martial arms. My wallet is hurting, but I'm really enjoying the experience and absorbing all the history and knowledge.

I'm a reloader, but haven't started loading for the Garand. Several cans of HXP should hold me over until I get there.

Thanks to the CMP for providing this forum, and to all the members in advance for the stories and knowledge.

Welcome to the forum. I'm from Hampton Roads also. If I can be of any assistance let me know. I don't claim to be the most knowledgeable but I've built a couple of M1s from scratch, currently have 14 0n hand and I'm getting ready to build my third. If I can't answer your questions then I can steer you in the right direction.

Thanks all! It's great to see a few locals already welcoming me.

Tom, thanks for the offer. A build is likely in my future. I love taking on projects like that. Have a few AR builds under my belt.

Hi,

I just joined. I'm also in Hampton Roads, on the Peninsula.

Nice to see some locals.

Thanks.

Hey, that was post 757 for you... appropriate.

I shoot there too, though my kids are at the age where their activities keep from frequent range trips.
