Is there some suggested reading or "how to's" on refurbishing an M1 Garand?
Thanks again.

FWIW, A local guy thinks the barrel is of Taiwanese MFG. it has a CAI stamping on the barrel near the front sight.
I asked where he may have found the info, But I have yet to hear back.
I have offered to purchase a barrel through the "for sale" section, But I just noticed the add is a few weeks old, So I don't know if its gone or not, Anyhow, I wonder if I should just get a new barrel through the CMP estore.
Its only money right?

you can get a good in spec oprod for 80$ up, i suspect yours is ok i have only ran across one in my 12 yrs with garands that was so rusted it couldnt be repaired,, oil and steel wool, the piston and body lightly, the front handguard metal is with the exception of the liner which you cant see should be replaced somewhere around 30-40$

Correct! It's really hard to see on your barrel, but there is a faint "broken spoke" wheel marking used on Nationalist Chinese military stuff. I saw a bunch of these at Big 5 last year and many also had very faint Chinese characters on the left side of the receiver (some are very faint). That "touch up" area is exactly where those Chines characters would have been so it looks like someone removed them.

If you need someone who works on Garands in the SLC area shoot me an email. I met a guy from there who regularly sells stuff in the GCA journal.
