That's my feeling as well - I just dislike unsolved mysteries, that's all.

Did this problem ever get sorted out? I will be ordering some pellets in the near future and was wondering if the problem was ever identified/corrected.

We never did figure it out, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy pellets from the CMP.
